A West Virginia jury has awarded more than $90 million to the family of an elderly woman who died as a result of nursing home neglect. According to court documents, the jury found that the nursing home neglected to care for and feed the woman.
Before she was admitted to the nursing home, she was communicative and able to walk on her own with a walker. Once there, she became extremely dehydrated and unable to feed herself. Her son says he tried to help her, but the nursing home gave him piles of paperwork and delayed her treatment. The $90 million goes towards economic and punitive damages.

Lawsuit Against Nursing Home Claims Negligence of Caregivers

A lawsuit against a Michigan nursing home called Lenawee Medical Care Facility will no longer be suing the home for wrongful death. However, it will still be suing based on claims of negligence on the part of caregivers.
The lawsuit was filed by the family of an elderly woman who died shortly after falling down a flight of stairs at the home. It was found that her death may not have been caused by her injuries from the fall, however, the nursing home’s caregivers have been accused of being negligent in their care of the woman. The lawsuit states that the woman’s code alert bracelet that she was ordered to wear for safety reasons was removed by the home and that the nurses did not walk the woman to dinner, which led to her fall.
The family has not stated how much they are seeking in the lawsuit.

The nursing home was given several citations, including one for failing to administer the proper doses of medicine to its elderly patients, and it was found that the home did not have enough nurses to properly take care of patients.
No injuries were reported, and the nursing home is still running after it corrected the problems and paid its fine.
