Last week a bus traveling from New York to Washington, D.C. crashed into two tractor-trailers on the New Jersey Turnpike. The bus was carrying 50 passengers, dozens of which were sent to the hospital with moderate to severe injuries. The driver of the bus was in critical condition but has since improved to stable condition.
The increase of bus accidents this year has caused many to criticize bus safety laws and fatigued drivers. There have been more than 30 deaths from 18 bus accidents since late July, according to the Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety. When interviewed, the 52 year-old bus driver said he was well rested and has a clean driving record since he became a professional driver 11 years ago.
