A Connecticut family was recently awarded the largest birth injury lawsuit reward in the state’s history. The $58 million award was divided between $50 million for physical and emotional trauma and $8 million for future medical expenses.
The lawsuit was filed by the parents of a boy who suffered birth injuries at a hospital in Connecticut. The mother went into the hospital to deliver the child in 2003 and her amniotic fluid levels dropped dramatically before the delivery. Doctors failed to notice these signs and did not order a c-section until a few days later.
As a result of the delayed c-section, the boy was deprived of oxygen causing brain damage and cerebral palsy.
