Nursing home under investigation after neighbor witnessed abuse

Edwards Group Home, a home for mentally ill patients in Hookerton, North Carolina, has recently been under a state investigation after a neighbor of the nursing home witnessed and videotaped a patient being abused by an employee at the home.
Last week, the neighbor and her husband heard screaming coming from the home. When they looked outside, they saw an employee head-butting and punching a patient. They were able to film the incident using a cell phone and turned the evidence into the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, which began an investigation into the home.
This is not the first investigation into the home. In April, officials investigated the home after neighbors witnessed a patient starting a fire in the front yard. The home was cited with a $500 fine for neglect.
