According to a report released by the Pennsylvania chief justice, medical malpractice suits filed in court have declined for the fifth year in a row.
The report provides evidence stating that malpractice complaints have cooled since the beginning of the decade. Philadelphia, which was considered the center of the state’s malpractice crisis, has seen the largest drop.
In 2008, 1,602 malpractice cases were initiated, the number fell to 1,533 in 2009. This is a 47 percent decrease from 2002, when 2,904 malpractice suits were filed. Philadelphia has seen a 64 percent decrease since 2002.
