Fatal Radiation Goes Unreported

Posted on Monday, February 8th, 2010 at 4:42 pm

Medical errors that include radiation mistakes often go unreported because of the lack of rules requiring hospital and doctors to disclose this information.

The New York Times did a special report on the topic. In New York, between 2001 to 2008, there were 627 radiation errors reported. Officials say this number could be much lower the it should be because many are not reporting the mistakes. In many cases, people were given radiation to the wrong part of their bodies or they were given a much stronger dosage than what was necessary.
